Week6: Revising nmy GAME Plan

This weeks’ resources offered excellent examples of resources that can be implemented in our classrooms and work towards achieve the objectives stated for my GAME plan. I am now at the end of the semester and coincidentally almost at the end of this course. This has been an exciting and fulfilling time for my students, my colleagues and for myself. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to implement so much of what we have shared through our discussions and blogs and presented in my applications. In summary, as a group, our language department has gained valuable experience in implementing instructional technology and managing distance education.

Today I will participate in a Webinar “Wikis in the Online Classroom”. MaryFriend Shepard, Laureate Coordinator for Educational Technology and Beate Baltes, Associate Director for Laureate Faculty Development will provide a brief overview of the educational purpose of Wikis. Participants will have an opportunity to not only see a Wiki but also to practice in an actual Wiki. Once the participants are convinced that it is easy to learn and the possibilities are endless, the discussion of how to integrate Wikis in the classroom will be facilitated.

Although I have a heavy workload this week, and I also have experience in creating wikis and participating in these spaces, I see this as an opportunity to share with the teachers in my campus what I have learned through our Walden Master’s program and will be one more step toward meeting another GAME objective in my GAME plan “collaborate with students, peers, parents and community members using digital resources to support student success and innovation.”

  1. I have never participated in a Webinar. Can you tell me more about your experience? Through my Walden courses, I have become more comfortable using Wiki pages. I am planning on using them in my classroom next semester as a way for my students to collaborate online.

  2. Miriam,

I have to agree with you that this week had so many different types of technology implementation, I would have been confused if I had not taken notes while viewing the video. I think this video gave me more goals to explore while trying to implement more technology into my practices not limiting my usage of only PowerPoint and estreaming. That is wonderful you experienced a Webinar. Is that like a seminar over the internet? That would be interesting. The more I collaborate with you and the others, I am becoming more confident in collaborating and typing my thoughts. I hope that our students will have that ability once they have experienced collaboration over the internet.

  3. Jodi and Jennifer,

Webinars are also new for me. It has been very exciting. I began participating in October with “Differentiate your Teaching with Technology” and then with “Wikis in the Online Classroom. As Jennifer states, a Webinar is like on online seminar. We were required to download the Live Meeting by Microsoft. Live Meeting is a collaboration tool found online that is used to present material and carry out communication in a synchronous manner. We are able to work together on documents and materials. With the webcam we are able to see the presenter and the participants and we communicate by voice and chat and also through the question and answer feature. This is the link where you can find more information http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/livemeeting/default.aspx

I look forward to reading your blogs.

  4. Miriam I definitely agree that this week’s resources are rich with examples that can be implemented into our classrooms. Webinar sounds very interesting; you do not need to attend the meeting but it’s still like you are communicating face-to-face.
