In the initial post to describe our GAME plan, I stated my objective to offer students motivating and meaningful activities planned to focus on the learning process of the content material and enable students to apply their technological and creative thinking skills to become self directed learners of the target language. This idea relates directly to the Project Based Learning we have reviewed through the resources provided this week.
I have been doing well to accomplish my goal. My English One students are working on their research projects and will be presenting to their work to the class next week. Students were provided with options to talk about their family, a famous person or their city. Students will apply their technological skills through power point presentations, voicethreads or podcasts.
Working with the online workbook has represented some technological challenges for all. We have worked and learned. I also had an opportunity to provide feedback to a Cambridge University Press representative. Working online has offered the students an additional component as an extension to the classroom lessons and provides additional practice in vocabulary, listening and structure. Students can take the initiative to improve their language skills, working at their own pace and the student results section enables students to self-monitor their own learning.

Miriam,
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so wonderful. Giving them choices gives the students ownership of the project they are creating. I just wanted to tell you that I read the article you gave me and really happy to know that it exists. I was wondering if you are aware of the Facebook application that connects teachers from around the world and provide visuals too for free. It is the "I AM TEACHER" application. I have only explored it a little so I am still learning, but it may connect you to another teacher that maybe your students can communicate with students out of Mexico. That would fun and exciting.
Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of the "I am Teacher" application. I will look into it.
Thank you for sharing.

Miriam,
ReplyDeleteI know you work a lot in you room with your textbook and set program. I was wondering if talking with a representative from Cambridge University Press yielded positive results. I know that they probbaly wouldn't change the site based on your suggestions, but I'm wondering if talking provided clarification or other options for making things work better in your classroom?

Hi Jason,
ReplyDeleteThe online workbook was recently created. Our school participated in the pilot program and Cambridge University Press is quite open to receiving feedback to improve their product. This project is interesting for CUP since it will involve approximately 60,000 students worldwide. I am proud to be part of this project and hope to see excellent results when students who are now in English I progress up to English V.
