Partnership for 21st. Century Skills
http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/
Their mission is to promote the allignment of U.S. school classrrom environments with real work environments through the 21. century skills. This website provides an amazing amount of information. I was especially impressed by the collaboration of companies such as the Ford Motor Company Fund and the Intel Foundation.
There is one section that would not apply to my teaching circumstances which is that relating the state initiatives. I personally could not find anything I would disagree with. I highly recommend the site. I found this link especially interesting: Information and Communication Technologies, ICT Digital Literacy http://www.ictliteracy.info/ .
As an educator, we must face the challenges of incorporating these skills into our classroom to equip our students to face the workplace environment.
Thanks for the information. I was looking at the ICT literacy maps and I think they may be particularly useful for educators. The maps provide specific examples of what needs to be done to promote the development of 21st century skills in various subject areas.
ReplyDeleteMiriam,
ReplyDeleteI was also pretty impressed with the information found on the Partnership for 21st Century Skills website. Prior to reading your blog post, I did not see the section about the companies who collaborate with this program. I think the companies on this site will continue to expand and develop very quickly over the next several months/years. It is very apparent how critical each of the skills addressed on the site will be for the students of our future’s workforce.

Hi Kevin,
ReplyDeleteI also find it very intesting when companies partner with the universities to outline the kind of skills and abilities required from their future employees.
When Boeing came to my state, one university created a specific major for the aircraft manufacturing business.
Hi Miriam,
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that everyone was impressed and interested with the website. It provides massive amount of resources and information that we can use in our classrooms. I was very impressed with the “snapshot” that shows examples of lessons in classrooms. I agree with you that we should incorporate these skills into our classrooms to prepare our students for the future. However, I was surprised to learn that only a few states participate in the 21st century skills. I keep asking myself what about other states and the other students who equally deserve to be provided with a better education that prepares them to face the real world of the information age.
